SUMMARY:Sun Cable - Renewable Energy for Singapore & Australia
LOCATION:Mindil Beach Casino and Resort\, Grand Ballroom
DESCRIPTION:https://energyclubnt.com.au/event-3559197\n\n\n\n THIS EVENT HAS REACHED CAPACITY AND NO FURTHER REGISTRATIONS ARE AVAILABLE\n Presentation Brief:\n As an island nation\, Singapore is reliant on imported Liquid Natural Gas for 95% of its electricity. This leaves Singapore's electricity consumers excessively exposed to the vagaries of global oil and gas pricing.\n Sun Cable will produce approximately a fifth of Singapore's electricity through solar power\, sourced from the Australian desert and transmitted via a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cable. Australia's strong relationship with Singapore\, its stable economy\, political and legal framework\, will ensure security of supply for Singapore. \n The 15\,000 hectare solar array near Tennant Creek in Australia's Northern Territory will be supported by battery storage. This will allow Singapore\, and also the Northern Territory\, to have a more diverse electricity supply\, thereby increasing resilience and helping it meet its Paris Commitment greenhouse gas reduction targets. \n The project will incorporate a 10 gigawatt solar farm with large scale storage\, to facilitate the supply of dispatchable electricity to Darwin and Singapore\, via an overhead and submarine HVDC transmission network.\n The project will utilise one of the highest solar resources available on the planet\, to generate and dispatch competitive and stably priced electricity for both markets. This project represents the next evolution of long distance HVDC transmission\, to facilitate very large scale renewable energy generation.\n Speaker:\n\n David Griffin\, Suncable's Chief Executive Officer\, has been active in developing utility-scale solar and wind farms in Australia since 2000 and South Africa since 2010\, through his own development companies and during his time as General Manager\, Development at Infigen Energy.\n Of the projects he has developed to date\, 231 MW of solar PV and 416 MW of wind farms have been commissioned\, and approximately 2 GW of wind and solar are in an advanced stage of development. David is currently also the Chairman of Terrain Solar\, a utility scale solar farm developer.\n Tickets include 2 course meal and drinks.\n Proudly sponsored by\n \n\n This event is open to Energy Club NT members\, guests and approved general admission.\n\n
