David Bird, Prelude VP Production from Shell Australia will be joining us to provide an update on Prelude’s progress, the construction of the marine supply base in NT and how FLNG technology has the potential to shape the future of the industry.

Prelude floating LNG (FLNG) is a natural gas project located approximately 475 km North North-East of Broome, WA. The project will be the first to use Shell’s revolutionary Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Technology, which allows for natural gas to be extracted, liquefied, stored and transferred at sea. This has never been done before.

FLNG removes the need for pipelines to shore, dredging and onshore works and therefore significantly limits the disturbance to the surrounding environment and reduces development costs. We believe that FLNG will enable the development of gas resources ranging from clusters of smaller more remote fields to potentially larger fields, via multiple facilities, where for a range of reasons an onshore development is not possible. This can mean faster, cheaper and more flexible development and deployment strategies for resources that were previously uneconomic or constrained by technical or other challenges.
