Please be advised that Jemena in conjunction with the Industry Capability Network (ICN) will be hosting Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP) Project briefing sessions in Katherine on Wednesday 22nd June and Darwin on Thursday 23rd June.

The briefings will provide an opportunity for Jemena and McConnell Dowell to give a project update and allow local businesses to engage directly with project team members. Representatives from ICN will be able to provide advice on accessing your ICN profile and submitting an expression of interest to the NGP via www.northerngaspipeline.icn.org.au

Government representatives will also be available at both Katherine and Darwin to provide information on government business development and support programs.

In Darwin, one project update is scheduled followed by networking and one-on-one discussions:

As Gladstone's 3 major oil and gas projects transition into operations and maintenance phase, it's interesting to see how this change will effect the local economy and businesses in the region. I was part of a delegation last week to travel to Gladstone to understand how local industry has positioned themselves for the changes ahead and what supporting industry organisations can do to assist. 

Geoffery Cann, Deloitte National Director Oil and Gas, was invited to present to the Gladstone Engineering Alliance at an event dedicated to showcasing the supply chain capabilities of the membership.

The essence of his remarks are that:

• Australia has made a far reaching decision to support natural gas exports driven by demand from Asia.
• The projects are moving into steady state operations
• Our villain is the crude oil market that has taken a dramatic fall in price
• The global LNG industry has been overturned in its wake
• To survive and thrive, Gladstone needs to do three things. First, promote the interaction between its value chains (gas, coal, biomass, bauxite). Second, adopt technologies to help take out cost and improve productivity. Third, become factory-like in all aspects of work.
• As only one in ten LNG projects will proceed, Gladstone has a large lead over other exporting cities and will be able to expand in the future.

Vertech have announced the acquisition of leading subsea technology company, Geo Oceans. The Perth-based industry leader in micro ROV technology joins the portfolio of companies of the award winning Scotland-based energy sector service group with immediate effect.

Geo Oceans is an innovator of safe, cost-efficient and powerful ROV technology used in marine inspection and survey tasks. It has worked closely with Perth-based company, Vertech, on a number of projects and recently team members from both companies travelled to the United States to meet with several key organisations to discuss upcoming collaborative projects.

PCNT were invited to join the NT delegation made up of various businesses showcasing some diverse capabilities and service offerings locally.

This was a great opportunity for PCNT to build brand awareness to the greater industry and we had a lot of interest in membership, networking opportunities and our events here in Darwin.

It was also great to continue to build some internal relationships with the other representatives of local businesses in the delegation and consider ways we can work together and collaborate in the future.

Entrepreneurs who have made billions on US shale and Queensland Coal seam gas are betting that the remote and little known Beetaloo Basin in the Northern Territory will be Australia's answer to the US unconventional gas phenomenon.

American Energy Partners (AEP), headed by US shale pioneer Aubrey McClendon, and multibillion-dollar Texas-based private equity investor Energy & Minerals Group (EMG), are among those that have been lured to the Beetaloo within recent months by huge estimates for resources as well as pipelines and LNG plants that can deliver gas to buyers.

That combination of favourable geology and multiple routes to customers, including the huge international LNG market as well as local mines and customers in southeast Australia, makes the opportunity in the Beetaloo area unique, players say.

Kevin Gallagher will start his rescue mission as CEO at Santos on February 1 fully expecting the low oil prices that have pushed its share price down nearly 70% in 12 months will persist for years to come – and will change the culture if needs be to turn the company around.
