    Entrepreneurs who have made billions on US shale and Queensland Coal seam gas are betting that the remote and little known Beetaloo Basin in the Northern Territory will be Australia's answer to the US unconventional gas phenomenon.

    American Energy Partners (AEP), headed by US shale pioneer Aubrey McClendon, and multibillion-dollar Texas-based private equity investor Energy & Minerals Group (EMG), are among those that have been lured to the Beetaloo within recent months by huge estimates for resources as well as pipelines and LNG plants that can deliver gas to buyers.

    That combination of favourable geology and multiple routes to customers, including the huge international LNG market as well as local mines and customers in southeast Australia, makes the opportunity in the Beetaloo area unique, players say.

    Wood Group has secured a new, multi-year contract with oil and gas company ConocoPhillips in Australia.


    The oil services group's PSN division will deliver brownfield engineering services to the Bayu-Undan field located south west of Timor-Leste and the Darwin liquefied natural gas plant at Wickham point in Darwin.

    In light of Jemena's recent news and appointment as operator for the NEGI pipeline, they have confirmed their support to the NT oil and gas industry becoming a Foundation partner with Petroleum Club NT.

    This commitment contributes to PCNT's vision to continue to provide a platform to initiate and sustain business to business relationships and career opportunities  across the sector. 

    Jemena will construct and operate the North East Gas Interconnector (NEGI) Pipeline to connect NT gas to eastern gas markets. The pipeline will cost $800 million to construct and will run for 622 kilometres between Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory and Mount Isa in Queensland.

    McConnell Dowell has been awarded the coveted construction contract for the North East Gas Interconnector (NEGI) while Jemena will be the project’s lead operator.

    The NEGI will be a 623 km pipeline that will link Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory (NT) to Mt Isa in Queensland, opening up supply lines between NT and the east coast gas market. The final project is valued at approximately AU$800 million.

    Monadelphous Group today announced it has been awarded a major long term maintenance and modifications services contract associated with Shell Australia’s Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project.

    The contract, with an estimated value of more than $200 million is located in the Browse Basin, approximately 475 kilometres north-northeast of Broome, in Western Australia. Monadelphous will provide maintenance, brownfield modifications and turnaround services to the LNG process plant, support utilities, hull and non-process infrastructure including accommodation and control rooms.

    The contract also includes the delivery of fabrication services from Darwin in support of offshore operations.

    INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) have announced the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG Project safely completed the offshore pipelay for its 890-kilometer, 42-inch diameter gas export pipeline that began in June 2014. It is the longest subsea pipeline in the southern hemisphere and the third longest subsea pipeline in the world.

    The gas export pipeline will deliver gas from the Ichthys Gas-condensate Field to the onshore facilities at Bladin Point near Darwin for processing. “Completion of the offshore pipelay marks a significant milestone for the project,” Managing Director Ichthys Project Louis Bon said.
