Jemena has taken the next step in developing infrastructure that could help deliver future gas supplies from the Northern Territory to customers across Australia's east coast, with the company set to apply for a pipeline permit to support a proposed connection between the Beetaloo Basin and the Northern Gas Pipeline.

The permit would enable Jemena to progress planning for a proposed 400-kilometre pipeline which would create a direct pathway for gas from the Beetaloo Basin, one of Australia's most significant emerging gas resources, to reach domestic markets using existing infrastructure.

Announcing the plan at NT Resources Week in Darwin, Jemena Managing Director David Gillespie said the company’s Northern Territory Gas Strategy is designed to expand infrastructure in line with market demand and production growth.

"Australia will continue to need reliable gas supply for power generation, businesses and industry, and manufacturers. Infrastructure has a vital role to play in connecting new sources of supply with customers," Mr Gillespie said.

"The Beetaloo Basin has the potential to become an important new source of gas for Australia, and our Northern Territory Gas Strategy is designed to ensure transportation infrastructure can grow alongside production."

"By building on the existing Northern Gas Pipeline, which already connects the Northern Territory with gas infrastructure on the east coast, we're creating a scalable and cost-effective pathway that can support future gas supply, strengthen market connectivity, and help bring new Northern Territory gas to Australian customers."

Commissioned in 2018, the Northern Gas Pipeline remains the only direct link between Territory gas fields and gas customers across Australia’s east coast. The pipeline can currently transport around 90 terajoules of gas per day, with capacity able to increase to approximately 130 terajoules per day through additional compression.

Mr Gillespie said the Northern Gas Pipeline and existing Territory infrastructure would also provide an important foundation for meeting future domestic gas supply requirements, including any obligations arising from the proposed Domestic Gas Reservation Scheme.

"While the details of the scheme continue to be worked through, the Northern Gas Pipeline already provides an established route for Territory gas to reach domestic customers and support Australia's energy needs," he said.

Once granted, the pipeline permit will allow Jemena to continue technical studies, environmental investigations and stakeholder engagement activities to support the project's development.

• Tamboran and Liberty Energy (NYSE: LBRT) have entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) setting out the intent to extend the hydraulic fracture stimulation and wireline services agreement covering Tamboran's operations in the Beetaloo Basin.
   
• The MOU builds on a partnership that began in 2023. Liberty commenced stimulation operations in the Beetaloo Basin in January 2025 and operates the largest stimulation fleet in Australia.
   
• In July 2026, the companies completed the largest stimulation campaign in the history of the Beetaloo Basin and the basin's first three-well zipper stimulation, placing 178 stages across approximately 30,000 feet of the Mid Velkerri B Shale, averaging 6.7 stages per day and setting basin records of 12 stages in a single day and pumping operations exceeding 20 hours per day.
   
• Liberty intends to begin phasing lower-emissions pumping equipment into the Beetaloo fleet from 2027, and the companies intend to jointly evaluate deployment of a next-generation, lower-emissions completions fleet over the term of any extension.
   
• The MOU further contemplates priority access for Tamboran to a broader set of Liberty capabilities as they are introduced to Australia, including gas processing and conditioning and remote gas-fired power generation through Liberty Power Innovations, PropX sand slurry delivery and collaboration on the development of local proppant supply. This builds on the first placement of locally produced Beetaloo Red Sand during the July 2026 campaign.

“Putting downward pressure on energy prices over time, helping to curb price increases, while also reinforcing reliability is a major step forward for the Territory."

The NT Government has previously been required to source emergency gas supplies at significantly higher costs to ensure reliable power generation.

The Chief Minister said Beetaloo gas was a strategic asset in reinforcing the nation's energy security.

“At a time when we have seen the consequences of not investing in energy independence, the Territory is stepping up to become a reliable energy producer while ensuring Territorians benefit from the development of our world-class resources,” the Chief Minister said.

Minister for Mining and Energy Gerard Maley said the milestone demonstrated how responsible resource development could deliver practical benefits for Territorians.

• The Sturt Plateau Compression Facility Trust (SPCF Trust), a 50/50 Joint Venture between Tamboran and Daly Waters Infrastructure, LP (DWI), has commenced gas commissioning of the SPCF with gas from wells on the Shenandoah South 2 pad.

• The SPCF is the key processing infrastructure required to deliver gas from the Shenandoah South Pilot Area to the Northern Territory gas market.

Sturt Plateau Compression Facility starts on time and on budget.

Opens the way to first natural gas sales in Australia’s Northern Territory.

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE) --Formentera Partners and its Australian operating company, Daly Waters Energy (DWE), today announced the start of natural gas commissioning at the Sturt Plateau Compression Facility (SPCF). The SPCF is the final piece of infrastructure needed to start the flow of natural gas from the Beetaloo Basin to the people and businesses of the Northern Territory.

The plant is owned by the SPCF Trust, a 50/50 joint venture between Daly Waters Energy and Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE/ASX: TBN). DWE holds its share through Daly Waters Infrastructure, a wholly owned unit. Tamboran operates the project.

Great Progress in Just Four Years

Formentera entered the play in 2022. It now holds 1.9 million net acres, one of the largest blocks of onshore shale acreage in the basin. The rock shares key traits with proven U.S. plays such as the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. A string of successful appraisal wells points to multi-TCF potential, which means there is enough natural gas to meet the needs of the Northern Territory and eventually supply larger cities and industry on Australia’s East Coast and also help backfill and grow LNG export capacity.

In March 2026, Formentera and DWE joined together with INPEX, one of the world’s leading LNG providers, to accelerate work in the basin. In August, the group announced plans to add a Helmerich & Payne FlexRig®, which is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2027.

More than 40 terajoules a day will flow straight into the Territory grid from one of the world's most significant onshore gas reserves, containing an estimated 430 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, enough to meet Australian gas demand for 200 years.

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro today secured two big wins for the Northern Territory following a successful National Cabinet.

As the first state leader to refuse to limit the number of guns or sign up to the National Gun Buyback Scheme, today both are now confirmed through the signing of the new National Firearms Agreement.

“Today is a big win for law-abiding Territory gun owners who will not be part of a National Gun Buyback Scheme," the Chief Minister said.

“From day one it was never an option for Territorians to be unfairly targeted in response to the atrocities that took place at Bondi.”

Instead, the focus of the newly signed Agreement includes three critical components.

· Sharing of criminal intelligence with States and Territories

· Making Australian citizenship a condition of holding a firearms licence subject to agreed exemptions (for example, workers)

· Prohibiting the manufacture of 3D-printed firearms, and the possession and distribution of material for manufacturing 3D firearms.

“The Territory has already made the necessary changes to our laws on 3D-printed firearms,” the Chief Minister said.

Nationally consistent regulation of data centres will go ahead, with full recognition that the Territory’s position on energy is uniquely different to the other states.

“I thank the Prime Minister and my State and Territory counterparts for recognising that the Territory needs a different approach," the Chief Minister said.

“When it comes to issues like data security, data sovereignty, water usage, and location of data centres we need a nationally consistent approach because all Australians know this is important.

“Today’s deal recognises the Beetaloo Basin will be online within days, we are not part of the National Electricity Market and we have a Territory-owned generation, transmission, and distribution system.

“Our focus remains on affordability and reliability of electricity for Territorians above all else.

“We are proud of the large uptake of renewables in the Territory, and they will continue to be an important part of our energy mix.

“Today’s result comes after I secured an additional $1b for our hospitals at the last face to face National Cabinet in February of this year.”
